CORONAVIRUS | The government will loosen interstate travel regulations in the midst of the conditional movement control order (MCO) to allow spouses and parents to reunite with their families.
In a live address today, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said this will enable fathers and mothers who have been unable to see their families due to movement restrictions to travel for close to two months to do so.
"On interstate travel, I am told there are husband-wife pairs who live apart due to work. For example, a husband is working in Perlis while his wife is in Johor. Due to the interstate travel ban, there are husbands who are unable to meet their wives and children for over two months.
"So the government has decided to give leeway to husbands or wives to travel to meet with their families.
“For travel involving interstate travel to Sabah and Sarawak, I appeal to the state government to allocate the same leeway,” he said.
Muhyiddin added that applications for travel permission can be made via the Gerak Malaysia app or the nearest police station.
Malaysians have been under the MCO since March 18 and conditional MCO since May 4, which prohibited movement across states.
The premier said this while announcing a further extension of the conditional MCO to June 9. - Mkini
