Half of Covid-19 cases linked to Sri Petaling cluster

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Nearly half of the Covid-19 cases in the country could be traced back to the cluster involving a religious gathering in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur.
This was based on updated figures from the Health Ministry, released today.
According to the ministry’s director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, there were 972 Covid-19 cases that were classified as "patient under investigation".
Now that the investigations were completed, it was found that these cases were linked to the Sri Petaling cluster, from the index case up to the fifth generation.
"Therefore, the number of Covid-19 cases linked to the Sri Petaling gathering is (currently) 3,347, up from 2,375 thought previously.
"This meant that the cluster and sub-clusters contributed 48 percent of Covid-19 cases in the country," he said during his daily press briefing today.
The Sri Petaling gathering took place between February 28 and March 1 involving participants from all over the world.
Malaysia first became aware that the event was a source of Covid-19 infections after some participants returned to Brunei and Singapore.
Currently, there are 399 Malaysians from this cluster who are still undergoing treatment while 33 have died.
Most (2,915) have recovered. - Mkini
