The Health Ministry is taking a breather today and will be issuing a statement instead of holding a press conference.
In a tweet, the ministry's director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it was the first time he and his team were given some time off since December.
"Today my team and I have been given the chance to rest for a while after working non-stop since December 2019 in handling the Health Ministry's responses and preparedness to face Covid-19," Noor Hisham tweeted.
This will also be the first time the ministry will be going off air since the second wave of Covid-19 infections began on February 27.
The statement on today's updates will be made after 5pm.
As of noon yesterday, there were 6,535 cases of Covid-19 in total, of which 1,564 were active cases. The death toll stands at 107.
Watching the daily Health Ministry press conference had become a daily ritual for many Malaysians, especially since the movement control order (MCO) began.
The MCO is slated to end on May 12, and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to announce whether or not it will be extended within the next few days.
For now, restrictions have been eased for most businesses, with security forces also pulling back their roadblocks to focus on restricting interstate travel. - Mkini
