Ismail: NSC survey found majority will not welcome guests during Hari Raya

Malaysiakini

A National Security Council (NSC) survey on the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations revealed that over 74 percent of respondents would not be welcoming any guests despite a leeway granted by the government.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the survey had attracted 215,712 respondents who were asked three questions on their planned celebration - whether to be kept within immediate family members in one household; to allow visits from close family members; or to welcome extended family members and neighbours.
"From the three questions, 74 percent chose option A which is to close their doors to outsiders, 20 percent for option B and only six percent for the third option," the senior minister in charge of security cluster said during a daily Covid-19 update press conference in Putrajaya.
Ismail said this when asked to clarify on his remarks yesterday that many Malaysians have urged the government to tighten its Covid-19 prevention guidelines, rather than to introduce more leeways.
Among others, it was previously announced that the government would allow for up to 20 visitors on the first day of Hari Raya, although it was later clarified that the figure is relative to the size of a family home.
"If this is the public trend, then I am not too worried because 74 percent do not want to open their doors during Hari Raya and only celebrate with people at home.
"And that is the government's wish... if even more people share this view, then we will not be so worried about the spread of Covid-19 infections during Hari Raya," he said.
'Price control list out tomorrow'
Meanwhile, Ismail said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will be announcing the annual festive period price control list tomorrow to ensure there will be no sudden increase in prices of basic goods.
He said this when asked for comments on a sudden hike in the price of chickens, reportedly up to RM9.60 per kg in Terengganu.
Similar increases were reported across markets in several states, from RM3 to RM7 per kg in Kelantan; RM6.50 to RM8.50 in Johor; and RM4.60 to RM9 in Selangor. - Mkini
