Police have arrested a mentally challenged man on Wednesday after he was suspected of using the identity of MCA youth chief Nicole Wong to commit cyber offences.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police have launched an investigation after Wong (above) filed a report on the matter on April 21.
"The politician filed a report after she found out that her picture and name was being used by someone else on Facebook to commit certain crimes.
"Based on our investigation, we arrested a 40-year-old mentally challenged man at his house at Taman Lembah Maju, Ampang, on Wednesday," he said in a statement today.
However, he has been released on police bail pending a psychiatric report.
Nik Ezanee added that the suspect is an OKU cardholder since 2015 and had undergone psychiatric treatment in the past.
The police had seized the suspect's mobile phone and two sim cards during the arrest.
He is being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation as well as Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
Malaysiakini has contacted Wong for a response. - Mkini
