Minister: Face mask compulsory for public transport users

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong stated that the use of face masks will be made compulsory for all public transport users.
He said his ministry made the decision after consulting with experts on the use of face masks.
“By law, we cannot say (everyone) must wear face masks but it is now mandatory when using public transportation.
“We have obtained the views of experts that the wearing of face masks could prevent Covid-19 infection. I think that is ok for the sake of people’s safety,” he said to reporters after visiting the Bukit Bintang LRT Station this morning.
Wee (photo) also said commuters with a high temperature or fever would not be permitted to board.
This measure and also social distancing are among precautionary steps being taken by the public transport sector, he said.
The conditional MCO comes into effect today after the government permitted the reopening of a majority of businesses and workplaces in a bid to revitalise the economy, stagnated as a result of the country being under partial shut down for over a month.
Wee had previously said public transport services would resume normal operations, which would be subjected to several guidelines. - Mkini
