Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has reminded Muslims that Hari Raya visits are only allowed on the first day of Raya this year.
He said an overnight visit is not part of the standard operating procedures for the Hari Raya celebration during the conditional movement control order (MCO).
"The SOP is clear. If Raya is on the 24th (of May) and you spend a night at others' house, that is wrong in terms of the SOP," Ismail (photo) said.
Under the SOP, those celebrating Hari Raya are allowed to go for interdistrict travel within the same state but they are not allowed to cross states unless they have permission from the police for emergency purposes or work purposes in which they must show a letter from the company they work with to the police.
While the restrictions are being relaxed to allow for Hari Raya visits and celebrations, Ismail, however, encouraged Muslims to celebrate Hari Raya at home.
"If possible, stay at home.
"Although we are giving certain leeway, we have to protect ourselves," he said.
Ismail shared that yesterday, a total of 2,539 vehicles had attempted interstate travel to go back to their hometowns but the police had asked them to return to their own homes.
"Those who managed to reach their hometowns, there's no guarantee that they can return to Kuala Lumpur without facing any action by the police," he said. - Mkini
