Jeneri assemblyperson Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been sworn in as the new Kedah Menteri Besar.
According to Bernama, the former Kedah opposition leader from PAS was sworn in at the state's 14th menteri besar at Wisma Darul Aman in Alor Star at 3.50pm.
This followed the formal resignation of former menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir of Bersatu this morning after losing majority support of the 36-member state assembly.
On Tuesday, Sanusi (photo) announced that 23 Kedah assemblypersons lost confidence in Mukhriz, including two former PKR representatives, 15 from PAS, two from BN and four from Bersatu.
Mukhriz began losing his grip on the chief minister's post after Bersatu, of which he is deputy president, exited Pakatan Harapan in February.
This lead to the fall of the Harapan-led federal government and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin taking over as prime minister.
This also led to a split in Bersatu leadership with Mukhriz and his father, Bersatu chairperson and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, siding against the party's departure from the Harapan coalition.
