Nadma: Six foreigners fled quarantine station in KL on Monday

Malaysiakini

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has confirmed that six foreigners who are under Covid-19 investigation have fled a quarantine station in Kuala Lumpur two days ago.
According to a spokesperson who was contacted by Malaysiakini, the incident, however, was under police jurisdiction as they are responsible for security at quarantine centres.
"At 5.34pm on May 4, the Health Ministry lodged a police report on a case where four Indonesian nationals and two Bangladeshis had fled from the quarantine station at the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia: International Languages Campus in Jalan Pantai Endah, Kuala Lumpur.
"Security control at quarantine stations are under the responsibility of the police and coordinated by the state and district disaster management committees. Nadma is confident that the police have carried out all security measures as per the standard operating procedure that has been set.
"However, despite security measures in place, an investigation revealed that the persons under investigation (PUI) escaped by climbing a fence behind Block 1 and 4 (at the premises) which were not installed with barbed wires," the spokesperson said in a statement.
According to the officer, there were a total of 242 PUIs at the quarantine station when the incident happened.
The statement added that security measures had been heightened at the premises following the incident.
An English daily last night reported that a group of foreigners, who were living at Selangor Mansion, Menara City One and Kampung Baru with suspected coronavirus cases had been placed at the quarantine station by the authorities.
However, the report by The Star stated that the incident involved seven foreign nationals instead of six.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim for comment.
Another 145 foreigners fled construction site, says report
Meanwhile, Free Malaysia Today reported that a group of over 100 foreign workers have gone into hiding after health authorities took their swab samples to be tested for Covid-19.
Quoting a source, the portal stated some 145 foreigners fled after the authorities conducted screening on those who had contact with Covid-19 positive patients at the Pavilion Embassy construction site in Kuala Lumpur.
"They escaped after the medical team took the swabs and while the police were on their way to cordon off the area," FMT quoted the source as saying.
According to the report, 11 of the workers who fled have been detained.
On Sunday, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that they have detected a new cluster of virus infection at the construction site after 28 workers were tested positive with Covid-19. - Mkini
