CORONAVIRUS | As of today, individuals are allowed to travel beyond 10km radius from their homes to buy groceries, food or for medical treatment.
However, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob pointed out that interstate travel is still not permitted under the conditional movement control order (MCO) from May 4 to May 12.
"The 10km radius rule is not part of the conditional MCO," he said in a daily press conference today.
The 10km rule is stated in a federal gazette that came into effect on April 1 to restrict individuals travelling far from home to buy groceries, food and medicine.
"Police have given the four-day interstate travel schedule (for people to return to work from the respective hometowns) from May 7 to 10.
"If we look at the rule, interstate (travelling) is still not allowed. So the four days are the only exemption from the rule," said Ismail.
Individuals who miss the travel dates have to apply and obtain approval from the police, he added.
"They have to report to the police to obtain the police's approval for their trip. This is up to the discretion of the police," he said.
Ismail, however, advised them not to miss the travel dates.
The police had stated that those who registered interest to travel interstate on the Gerak Malaysia app won't require any approval as long as they abide by the provided schedule.
On May 2, Ismail revealed that the police received over 500,000 applications to travel back to major city centres.
He said these people were trapped in their hometowns and wanted to return to the city to work. - Mkini
