No risk of Covid-19 infection from food, says Noor Hisham

CORONAVIRUS | Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there is no risk of Covid-19 infection from food.
Noor Hisham was referring to public concerns from the closure of a chicken factory in Negeri Sembilan after the workers there contracted Covid-19.
"There is no risk of infection from food.
"When we buy food, we cook it, and the virus is dead," he said.
On the chicken factory, Noor Hisham said the ministry is waiting for the report from the Veterinary Services Department.
"So far, we have yet to ascertain whether there's a (Covid-19) virus in the animal," he added.

The chicken factory was shut after over 60 people were tested positive for Covid-19 in the area.
Tesco Malaysia, in a statement, had stated that it stopped sourcing chicken from the factory.
“We were informed of the confirmed cases (by the supplier)... on May 6, and as a preventative measure, we have immediately stopped sourcing from their Pedas Linggi plant until further notice.
“We continue to source for supply of chicken from our other suppliers to ensure stocks remain available for customers in stores throughout this Ramadan and the upcoming Raya period,” the spokesperson said. - Mkini
