CORONAVIRUS | Only ten districts nationwide are considered Covid-19 red zones, with more than 40 cases still in treatment respectively.
Data of active cases released by the Ministry of Health today shows the red zone districts are concentrated in densely populated areas in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor and Sarawak.
Kuala Lumpur has the highest number of red localities, with four red districts namely Batu (98 active cases), Ibu Kota (155 active cases), Kampung Bharu (67 active cases) and Sri Petaling (45 active cases).
Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur alone recorded 20 new cases or 51 percent of all cases.
The Ministry of Health said seven of those cases were traced to the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market in the Batu district while seven others were traced to a Kuala Lumpur shopping mall.
The mall is located in Cheras but under the Salak Selatan health department jurisdiction. As such, the cases traced there are recorded under the Salak Selatan district.
Selangor, which recorded 16 of yesterday’s 39 new cases, has three red districts - Petaling (49 active cases), Hulu Langat (57) and Gombak (84).
The bulk of new Selangor cases were traced to Kampung Sungai Lui in Hulu Langat, which was earlier placed under enhanced movement control order (MCO) after a spike in cases traced to a tahfiz school there.
Sarawak loses one green zone
In Sarawak, the red districts are Kuching (102 active cases) and Kota Samarahan (44 active cases).
It recorded only one new case yesterday, in the district of Lundu located 81 km from Kuching.
Lundu was previously a green zone. This is the first case recorded in the district since the outbreak hit Malaysia in January.
Meanwhile, only Kluang in Johor is considered a red district with 54 cases still in treatment.
Two villages in Simpang Renggam, under the Kluang health department jurisdiction, were previously placed under enhanced MCO.
Yellow and green states
States and territories in the yellow zone include Malacca, Putrajaya, Terengganu and Sabah, where all districts have less than 10 cases each respectively.
According to Ministry of Health data, Kunak in Sabah returns to the yellow zone with one active case. However, state health department data shows Kunak has zero active cases.
Pahang, which is also in the yellow zone, has two districts with more than 10 active cases namely Kuantan (17 active cases) and Jerantut (13).
The remaining nine Pahang districts either have zero active cases or less than seven.
The bulk of active cases in Negeri Sembilan is in Seremban (37 cases) while the remaining six districts have less than eight cases each.
Kedah has only one active case - an import case treated in Kota Setar - while Perak, Kelantan, Perlis, Labuan and Penang are green zones with zero active cases.
