Pahang state assembly speaker Ishak Muhammad today notified the Election Commission (EC) of the vacant Chini state seat.
Ishak handed the letter of notification to state EC deputy director (operations) Ahmad Fadzli Rohimi Suhaimi who represented director Zamree Hamli at 11.15am at Wisma Sri Pahang.
The seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyperson Abu Bakar Harun, 60, due to a heart attack on Wednesday.
In the 14th general election, Abu Bakar retained the Chini state seat with a majority of 4,622 votes, defeating Mohd Razali Ithnain of PKR and PAS candidate Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim.
He held the seat since winning it in the 11th general election in 2004.
Chini is one of the four state seats under the Pekan parliamentary constituency.
