People will still reject corruption-linked Umno in next GE - Liew

Malaysiakini

Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong said that Umno under the leadership of several familiar faces linked to corruption cases will not win the next general election.
Liew (above) said this is because the people still want a clean government.
"If Umno is represented by the likes of Najib (Abdul Razak), Zahid Hamidi, and Tengku Adnan (Tengku Mansor), I think that Umno will not win the next general election as the people still want a clean government free from corruption," he said.
The former deputy defence minister was speaking in a Pakatan Harapan e-ceramah yesterday evening which was aired live on Harapan's Facebook page.
Liew revealed that in early February, he had met Muhyiddin Yassin, who is now the prime minister, and reminded him that PAS and Umno wouldn't give Bersatu a chance in the election if the trio worked together.
"On Feb 5, I met Muhyiddin and told him that there's no place for Bersatu if he worked with PAS and Umno.
"But in Harapan, we already have the seat distribution formula and we can work together based on the same idea," Liew said.
He added that without a manifesto to be shared together, the Perikatan Nasional government could only be bound by rewards.
"But what kind of offering can you give to Umno members? The only thing that they want is a new election.
"They thought that by joining hands with PAS, they could win the next general election. They don't need Bersatu," he said.
As compared to Harapan, which has a manifesto and ideas to work on together plus the determination to battle corruption, the PN government has only one idea that holds them together, Liew said.
"Only one idea - it's that a government must not include DAP. That's all," he said.
The Harapan government collapsed in February after Bersatu and several PKR MPs left the coalition and formed a new coalition with Umno, PAS, and GPS. - Mkini
