Johor PKR deputy chief Jimmy Puah claims Putrajaya is channelling an extra RM300,000 allocation to each of the 29 Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblypersons in the state, which adds up to RM8.7 million.
He said this was an effort to retain the support of assemblypersons amid tensions between Bersatu and Umno in Johor.
"This may happen because, amid the Bersatu-Umno tensions in Johor, the PN governments at the federal and state levels are getting desperate and are resorting to this to retain support," he said in a statement today.
Citing sources, Puah (photo) claimed the payments would be made through the Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).
"I feel this is strange, as, throughout my time as an assemblyperson and state exco member (under Pakatan Harapan), I have never received any direct allocation from the federal government.
"Usually, the ICU will channel allocations to MPs or relevant government agencies only," he said.
He added that funds for assemblypersons would usually be channelled through the state government.
He has asked Johor Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad to confirm or deny the allocations.
Malaysiakini has contacted Hasni for comment.
Puah questioned whether PN assemblypersons in other states such as Pahang and Malacca have also received additional allocations. - Mkini
