PM sings praises of youths

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic) paid tribute to the youths for their contribution to the nation, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Muhyiddin said the government appreciated youths who stepped forward to help society face the virus outbreak.
“Many youths are involved as frontliners in the health, security, sanitation and community sectors.
“Not forgetting those who have contributed their creative and innovative ideas that helped facilitate matters in society, ” he said in a recorded video message for National Youth Day posted on his Facebook page yesterday.
Muhyiddin also commended the contribution from youth leaders, artists, religious scholars and social media influencers who created awareness on the importance of staying home and ensuring the conditional movement control order (CMCO) would be successful.
“You are all unsung heroes. Well done and congratulations, ” he said.
Muhyiddin said May 15 was a significant day for all youths and there were plans by the government to celebrate the youths of Malaysia.
However, the Covid-19 outbreak had caused a setback to these plans.
He said the theme planned for this year was “Dekad Ini, Dekad Anda” (This Decade, Your Decade).
This showed the seriousness of the government in appreciating the role and contributions of youths, he added.
Muhyiddin said the youth of today needed to accept and participate in the new normal brought by Covid-19.
“This means your lifestyle and way of work need to change
with the current times, especially during the conditional MCO nationwide.
“That is why the government has taken proactive measures – not just to curb the spread of Covid-19 but to also ensure that the youths are not left behind, ” he said.
Muhyiddin said a survey by the Youth and Sports Ministry through the Institute for Youth Research Malaysia in March showed that 95.8% of youths
supported the financial initiatives through the stimulus packages to empower the economy for youths affected by the outbreak.
He hoped that the almost RM10bil allocation announced by the government would benefit youths. - Star
