Police say foreigners who fled KL construction site tested negative for Covid-19

Malaysiakini

The 145 foreigners who fled from a construction site in Kuala Lumpur all tested negative for Covid-19, said Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Huzir Mohamed.
Huzir said this with regard to the 145 foreigners who went into hiding following health authorities having taken swab samples from them to test for Covid-19.
He was confirming a report by English news portal Free Malaysia Today which quoted sources saying the 145 went into hiding following screening done on those who had contact with Covid-19 positive patients.
He confirmed that a police report has been made over the matter and that from the screening done, around 300 of a separate group of foreigners were found positive and have been brought to the hospital.
“Those who ran (145 foreigners) all (tested) negative (for Covid-19).
“Out of the 145, we have succeeded in nabbing six earlier, with another five picked up today.
“The remainder is still under police action,” he said during a press conference at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters this afternoon.
Meanwhile in regards to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) confirming today that six foreigners fled a quarantine centre in Kuala Lumpur two days ago, Huzir confirmed that the police have opened investigations into the matter.
He added that the police are currently tracing the foreigners.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that Nadma has confirmed that six foreigners who are under Covid-19 investigation have fled a quarantine station in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
According to a spokesperson, the incident, however, was under police jurisdiction as they are responsible for security at quarantine centres.
The spokesperson said that at 5.34pm on May 4, the Health Ministry lodged a police report on a case where four Indonesian nationals and two Bangladeshis had fled from the quarantine station at the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia: International Languages Campus in Jalan Pantai Endah, Kuala Lumpur. - Mkini
