An operation on undocumented migrants at PJ Old Town is underway as police and Immigration personnel move in just three days before the enhanced movement control order (MCO) is expected to end in the area on May 23.
Many police officers were spotted riding into the locked down zone starting from 8am this morning as some parts of the barbed wire fence were opened up to let them in.
Immigration personnel were also on the scene and drones were seen monitoring the area.
A source confirmed with Malaysiakini that an operation led by the Immigration Department to conduct raids on undocumented migrants was being carried out.
The area was announced as an enhanced MCO site since May 10 and it is supposed to end on May 23.
There have been 28 positive Covid-19 cases in the area, two of them are outside of the enhanced MCO site.
The Immigration Department has previously come under sharp criticism for carrying out raids on migrants in the enhanced MCO zone in Selayang.
Malaysiakini is attempting to contact Immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud for a response to this latest raid.
