Malaysians are allowed to take part in some types of recreational fishing during the conditional movement control order (MCO) period.
According to the Department of Fisheries (DoF), bank fishing, in any form, is allowed between 7am and 6pm.
However, the fishing location must be within 10km from one's residence and if the anglers are in a group, they must maintain social distancing.
What is not allowed is fishing from a boat or visiting pay-to-fish ponds.
According to the DoF Facebook page, such activities might be allowed in the future after the guidelines are finalised.
The government will loosen MCO rules from tomorrow onwards which will allow most businesses to reopen and for Malaysians to engage in some recreational activities.
However, any activity involving large groups are still banned.
Initially, recreational fishing was included in the National Security Council's (NSC) list of banned activities.
A check on the NSC's website today revealed that only commercial pay ponds visits are banned. - Mkini
