The Registrar of Societies is reviewing a letter from Dr Mahathir Mohamad's lawyer regarding the Bersatu chairperson position.
"ROS confirms receiving the letter on May 20. The ROS is currently in the process of reviewing the letter," its corporate communications unit said briefly in reply to a query from Malaysiakini.
The registrar had previously declared Muhyiddin Yassin as Bersatu acting chairperson, after affirming Mahathir's resignation from the post.
However, the former prime minister in a letter yesterday said the ROS had overlooked several factors, including his uncontested re-election to the position in March.
Mahathir, in the letter, is also seeking to invalidate the appointment of Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin as Bersatu secretary-general.
Mahathir had tendered his resignation after the party defied him and took Bersatu out of Pakatan Harapan to form PN.
Shortly after the resignation, Bersatu had convinced him to remain and announced he would continue as chairperson.
However, Muhyiddin later appointed himself as acting chairperson.
