Royal address clearly proves gov't's legitimacy, say PN, GPS

Malaysiakini

Perikatan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak have touted the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s royal address in Parliament on Monday as proof of the government’s legitimacy.
“His Majesty’s speech is clear evidence of the Perikatan Nasional government’s legitimacy, which was formed in line with provisions of the Federal Constitution, and the principles of constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy practised in this country.
“His Majesty’s speech also gives strength and motivation for the PN government to continue to serve the rakyat. What is most important is that the government upholds trust to ensure the welfare of the people is protected,” the two coalitions said in a joint statement today.
The statement was undersigned by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Parti Bersatu Sabah president Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku president Jeffery Gapari Kitingan, and GPS chairperson Abang Johari Openg.
During Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s royal address, the ruler said he had tried to convince Dr Mahathir Mohamad not to resign as prime minister but to no avail.
After a process to determine who the MPs supported as prime minister, he said he found Muhyiddin commanded majority support.
He also warned MPs not to drag the country into another round of a political crisis.
The seating arrangement in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday revealed that PN has the support of 113 out of 222 members of the House – the slimmest majority in Malaysia’s parliamentary history. - Mkini
