Human Resource Minister M Saravanan has clarified that the Employment Retention Programme (ERP) is still accepting applications.
The scheme, managed by the Social Security Organisation (Socso), was announced on March 16 and will provide RM600 for each month to eligible Socso contributors who were forced to go on unpaid leave.
The clarification followed a tweet by Socso, which it has admitted to being erroneous, claiming that the ERP scheme had ended on April 22 as there was no new injection of funds.
This tweet was widely shared online, causing concern that Socso's funds were drying up.
Saravanan said as of May 1, Socso had received 27,222 applications for the ERP, involving 230,652 workers.
"At the moment, Socso is still processing applications for ERP and will disburse the funds to applicants who were approved based on the set criteria," he said.
Only employees earning RM4,000 a month and below who consented to unpaid leave will qualify for the ERP. - Mkini
