PETALING JAYA: The sacking of city councillors in Selangor by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari continued late into the night Wednesday (May 6), with more expected to get the boot.
All six councillors who have been sacked so far claim it is an act of "political vendetta".
The latest to receive a letter of termination, as of Wednesday night, was Ismail Kamal Abdul Rahman, a councillor with the Subang Jaya City Council (MPSJ).
Nallan Dhanabalan, Haslina Abin@Kassim and Salmah Ismail from the Ampang Jaya City Council also received termination letters from Amirudin, joining colleague Hassan Yusof, who was among the first to be sacked.
Sepang city councillor Muhammad Mizan Adli Muhammad Noor was the first to have received the termination letter, dated Wednesday, from Amirudin.
The letters, signed by Amirudin, simply stated that their services as councillors for the 2018-2020 period were being terminated as of May 7 under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1976 (Act 171).
The reasons for termination were not stated in the letters.
All six to have been sacked so far are PKR members facing disciplinary action for "betraying" the party when they supported the breakaway group led by Senior Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali to form the Perikatan Nasional Federal government on March 1, ousting Pakatan Harapan from Putrajaya.
The Selangor state government is under Pakatan rule and Amirudin is from PKR.
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier said that those who supported Azmin were "traitors" to the party. - Star
