Up to courts, Ismail says on MCO fine amounts

Those who violate the movement control order can be fined a maximum of RM1,000.

PUTRAJAYA: Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob says it is up to the magistrates to decide on the amount of fine imposed on those who violate the movement control order (MCO), amid a debate on the different amounts meted out to various individuals.

As a democratic nation, he said, the government does not interfere with court cases.

“It’s up to the courts (to set the fine), hence the difference in amounts.

“This may be due to the facts of the case, we don’t know,” he said at his daily briefing here today.
