CORONAVIRUS | A toddler and his mother who were previously detained at the Bukit Jalil immigration detention centre have tested positive for Covid-19.
During his daily briefing this evening, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the boy was one of the three local transmissions involving non-citizens as of 12 noon today.
“In the Bukit Jalil immigration centre cluster, we have a four-year-old Myanmar boy.
“His mother has also been found positive,” he said.
The boy is believed to be the first child in detention to test positive for this virus.
The duo was earlier moved from the centre and screened before they were placed at the Immigration Academy in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
They are presently being treated at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
This brings the total number of cases at the Bukit Jalil immigration centre cluster to 645. One patient from the cluster has died.
Three other immigration detention centres have seen Covid-19 outbreaks following raids on undocumented migrants in May.
The Semenyih centre saw 66 cases, the Sepang centre witnessed 60 cases and the Putrajaya temporary detention centre saw two cases. - Mkini
