PETALING JAYA: Amid complaints about queue-jumping, a government guideline was released this evening listing those who have priority in the first phase of the national vaccination programme, which covers frontliners.
It said frontliners are divided into two categories:
- healthcare workers, in public and private institutions, including those in the state health departments; those who were treating patients as well as those at the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre. This category includes nurses, ambulance drivers as well as medical and pharmaceutical officers.
- general practitioners, health ministry contractors, dentists in the private sector; the armed forces, police, firemen; ministers and executive councillors, members of Parliament and assemblymen; Customs officers and those in social services.
The special committee on access to Covid-19 vaccines said frontliners are those at high risk of contracting the virus, as they were exposed to Covid-19 patients or work in environments which put them at risk.
The guideline was released hours after science minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who coordinates the immunisation campaign, issued a warning against queue-jumpers.
He confirmed that some people not supposed to receive the vaccine had successfully made it to a list of those eligible for the first phase.
The special committee said a sub-committee comprising government agencies, the private sector and non-governmental organisations had been formed to identify and process applications for priority in the vaccination programme.
It said more than 1.5 million people have registered to be inoculated via the MySejahtera app. - FMT
