PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has requested for Science, Technology and Innovations Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to brief all opposition MPs on the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in Parliament on March 18.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, in a statement, said this was contrary to Khairy's claim that there was no response from Anwar on an offer to brief the opposition leader and Harapan's leadership.
"I take note of YB Khairy Jamaluddin's tweet on March 7 that cited his letter to the opposition leader dated Feb 26, suggesting a briefing on the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Harapan's leadership," said the Lembah Pantai MP.
According to Fahmi, Khairy's letter was received by PKR headquarters on March 2, two days before a Harapan leaders' meeting with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun, seeking permission for Parliament to reconvene on March 18.
He said this was followed by a Harapan meeting where it was decided that the briefing from Khairy should be given to all opposition MPs in Parliament on March 18.
"This is to ensure that all opposition MPs can come together to assist in the war against Covid-19, including through the immunisation programme," Fahmi said, adding that the decision was communicated to Khairy in a March 6 letter from Harapan chief secretary Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
"Keadilan and the entire opposition bloc is ready to play our roles in this Covid-19 war and we await the briefing and discussion with YB Khairy on March 18, InsyaAllah," he said.
The official dates for the next Parliament sitting have yet to be announced, although the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has on Feb 24 decreed that Parliament could reconvene even during the emergency period. - Mkini
