Syed Saddiq on one month's study leave, will donate MP's salary to help Muar

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman will be away pursuing studies at the National University of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy for a month and intends to give up his salary while away to help his staff work for his constituents.

“I’m not going there for a vacation but to study. I hope my studies in the field of public policy can make me a better MP and policymaker for Muar and Malaysia.

“Since the emergency, my Muar team has successfully helped 765 families obtain laptops and tablets, 5,500 families have received food bank aid, and 150 students have received Dermasiswa Harapan Muar aid," he said in a Facebook post.

As such, he will be channelling his MP’s salary for the month of March to his team in Muar.

The former youth and sports minister added that he did not deserve to keep his pay while he was away studying.

“Throughout my time in Singapore, these efforts will be continued by my team in Muar,” Syed Saddiq said.

He had started an executive course in public policy last September but will be required to be physically present for classes this whole month.

Fellow Johor parliamentarian Segamat MP Edmund Santhara recently revealed that he has been in New Zealand since December on a 55-day leave approved by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. - Mkini
