The police today dismissed an allegation by Senator Muhammad Zahid Md Arip that they have given special treatment to the employer who allegedly assaulted his two bodyguards.
Zahid, in a statement today, demanded Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador to explain to the public why the suspect was allowed to have a "media conference" to apologise to the Muslims and the King.
The employer was investigated after he allegedly became upset with his bodyguards for fasting. The two were then slapped and beaten with a cane.
In response to the allegation, Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah stressed that there was no special treatment given to the suspect.
He explained that the incident where the suspect addressed the media happened coincidentally when the suspect was passing the lobby of the Dang Wangi police district headquarters (IPD) as he was being brought to the Kelang Selatan IPD.
"At that time, reporters were still at the (Dang Wangi) IPD after covering a media conference on the viral raya video promoting gambling.
"The suspect (accompanied by two cops) coincidentally passed by the lobby to be brought to IPD Klang Selatan and reporters were taking his pictures.
"Reporters did not ask any questions to the suspect. He instantaneously spoke up, apologised in Mandarin and reporters captured his statement," Zainal said in a statement.
Zainal urged people not to take advantage and manipulate the issue involving the suspect. - Mkini
