PETALING JAYA: Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that Maahad Tahfiz Sains Tanah Merah in Kelantan will go under enhanced movement control order (EMCO) effective tomorrow.
In a statement this evening, he said the health ministry had reported a drastic increase in Covid-19 cases at the tahfiz school.
The health ministry has conducted 396 screenings, with 43 coming back positive.
The EMCO at the school is expected to last till May 2.
Meanwhile, Ismail said the EMCO at Kampung Belaoh, Kampung PPRT Belaoh Baru, Kampung Keruak, Kampung Pak Sik and Felcra Keruak in Hulu Besut, Terengganu, will be extended until April 27.
On the arrests yesterday, Ismail said 158 people were arrested for various offences. Out of that, 131 were issued compound fines while 27 were remanded.
Among the offences were flouting physical distancing rules (49), failure to record personal details/check-in at premises (31), not wearing face masks (17), activities at entertainment centres (7) and others (54).
Authorities also seized eight vehicles and turned away 10 illegal immigrants yesterday as part of border surveillance operations. - FMT
