KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Gurdwaras Council (MGC) has expressed its appreciation for the government's concern in allocating RM4 million to 120 Gurdwaras in the country, including RM1 million for the proposed Malaysian Sikh Centre, said its president Jagir Singh.

In a statement today, he said with the current economic scenario and the government incurring a heavy expenditure of more than RM600 billion, the MCG was grateful for the allocation.

Jagir said the MGC also wished to put on record that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when attending the Vaisakhi Hi-Tea on April 12, did not at any time declare that 'the country is almost bankrupt'.

"All those present at the Hi-Tea will vouch for it. What the YAB Prime Minister was conveying was that the country due to the Covid-19 and economy, had to incur a heavy expenditure of more than RM600 billion and this heavy expenditure had resulted in the government not having much money left.

"This is very different from saying that 'country was almost bankrupt," said Jagir. - Bernama
