Kelantan moots allowing fully vaccinated persons into mosques

The Kelantan government has suggested that those who have received two Covid-19 vaccine doses be allowed to perform congregational prayers at mosques with the condition they adhere to existing standard operating procedures (SOPs).

State health exco Dr Izani Husin said the matter would be submitted to the Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maik) before a formal decision is made.

"We suggest that the mosque be opened to those who have already completed two doses of vaccine as they have a lower risk of infection.

"So we propose that (mosques) be opened to them without a limit (in congregants), but they still have to comply with the existing SOP,” he told the media after a state special security committee meeting at Kota Darulnaim Complex, Kota Bharu, yesterday.

Maik issued stringent SOPs for the current movement control order, with prayers allowed at the mosques and surau statewide, but with a congregation of only four people.

Meanwhile, Izani, who is also the Kijang assemblyperson, said the state government was ready to buy their own supply of Covid-19 vaccines in an effort to make the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) successful at the state level.

According to him, the decision was made after seeing an increase in people’s awareness of the importance of the vaccine.

However, Izani added, it still depended on several factors such as the amount of supply available and the financial capability of the state government. - Mkini
