The decision by the prime minister's political secretary to upload his speech on why a 1969 National Operations Council-style government was unnecessary has bewildered the DAP.
In a statement today, secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said his party found the video clip by Marzuki Mohamad "bizarre".
He explained that the then council - better known by its Malay acronym, Mageran - ruled the country as a dictatorship from 1969 to 1971 following race riots.
"No Pakatan Harapan party nor any political party for that matter has suggested the formation of a Mageran-type government.
"This raises more questions on whether PN is in control of running the government," he said.
Marzuki's 10-minute video clip was uploaded at 8pm yesterday where he alleged that there were people suggesting that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong form a new Mageran.
He argued that this was unnecessary as times were different and that the country was currently facing a "health emergency" rather than a "security emergency" which necessitated Mageran in 1969.
Lim speculated that Marzuki's video was an attempt to divert attention from the eroding public confidence in the latter's boss, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Coupled with Special Functions Minister Mohd Redzuan Mohd Yusof's claim that he was being sidelined in the government's Covid-19 programmes along with an apparent spat between Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali, Lim argued that recent developments had shown the dysfunctional nature of Muhyiddin's government.
"When ministers cannot harmonise their decisions in cabinet meetings, the government is totally incapable of uniting the people to fight and win the battle against Covid-19.
"Malaysians face a possible dystopian future of great injustice or suffering with such a dysfunctional and disunited government," said Lim. - Mkini
