Covid-19 (July 30) : 16,840 new cases and 134 deaths, Klang Valley reports below 10k cases

 

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 16,840 new cases of Covid-19 as of noon today.

Today marked the 19th straight day where a new record was set for active Covid-19 cases.

Consequently, the number of patients in intensive care or requiring ventilator support is also at its highest today.

Sampling rates have yet to be released at the time of writing.

A new record was set in Sabah (1,066) which has the worst vaccination registration rate and the lowest proportion of people vaccinated. 

Only 18.8 percent of Sabah's adult population has received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, far below the national average of 40.37 percent.

Every part of the country except Labuan is currently experiencing an uptrend in new Covid-19 cases throughout the country - even in Kuala Lumpur where 126.6  percent of the population are supposed to have received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccines.

In Selangor (6,092), a staggering one in four people who were reported today with Covid-19 either had symptoms and were not linked to any known clusters or were categorised as close contacts.

Deaths

Another 134 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported today. The national death toll has reached 8,859.

Selangor reported the most deaths (35) followed by Malacca (17), Johor (15), Negeri Sembilan (15), Kedah (12), Perak (12), Kuala Lumpur (10), Sabah (6), Terengganu (5), Pahang (4), Kelantan (2), and Penang (1). 

There were nine victims who were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. 

Clusters

The Health Ministry is currently monitoring 1,092 active Covid-19 clusters as of today.

Another 47 new clusters were classified today of which 24 were related to workplace spread.
