Make good promise to send oxygen, ventilators to Klang hospital, Santiago tells Adham

Klang MP Charles Santiago said Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang was lacking in essential medical equipment.

PETALING JAYA: An opposition MP hopes health minister Dr Adham Baba will keep his promise to urgently deliver more oxygen, ventilators and medical equipment to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang.

Klang MP Charles Santiago said he also hoped Adham would make good his assurance during an unscheduled visit to the hospital yesterday that more specialists would be sent to the hospital.

“While we appreciate the health minister’s visit, the key to saving lives is providing faster and efficient services.

“As such, we hope that the minister’s promises will be fulfilled within the next two weeks,” Santiago said.

In a statement, he said the health minister spent close to two hours inspecting the hospital and speaking to patients, doctors and management staff.

“Patients sitting outside the emergency department told him they had been sitting there for a couple of hours without food,” Santiago said.

The minister then made arrangements for 400 meals to be brought in.

Earlier this month, Santiago had urged Putrajaya to immediately intervene in the crisis developing at the hospital that had left patients waiting outside the wards.

He had said the hospital did not have enough beds, while medical frontliners were exhausted and medical equipment was breaking down.

He said Mercy Malaysia was building a 100-bed facility at the Klang hospital to accommodate more patients. - FMT
