'No more gaji' Annuar signs up as volunteer for own brainchild

After losing his job as the federal territories minister, Annuar Musa has decided to join his own brainchild as a Wilayah Prihatin volunteer (PriVo).

The Ketereh MP made the announcement on Twitter this evening, where he also posted a photograph of his identity tag.

The veteran politician gave the impression of not feeling perturbed over the latest political development, suggesting that titles and the perks that came with them were not permanent.

“Yes, no more riders (police outriders), no more bodyguards, no more 'gaji' (salary), nothing. But to me, those were all 'on loan'. What's next? Serve the rakyat as usual.

“I have registered myself as a Prihatin volunteer.

“I want to continue helping the poor, gelandangan (homeless people) and those in need. Esok saya mula, InsyaAllah (God willing, I will start tomorrow),” he said.

Annuar (above) was among the group of Umno lawmakers who defied their party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to support Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's administration.

Muhyiddin was forced to resign as prime minister this morning after losing majority support in the Dewan Rakyat. This is after Zahid and 14 other Umno lawmakers withdrew their backing for him.

His cabinet members relinquished their respective posts as well. This included Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu who was appointed as a special advisor to the prime minister with minister status 11 days ago.

Last December, Faizal was ousted as the Perak menteri besar through a vote of confidence in the state legislative assembly.

Caretaker Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin

Earlier today, Istana Negara announced that Muhyiddin, who took over Putrajaya through a political coup in February last year, would continue to serve as caretaker prime minister until a successor is found.

At present, none of the frontrunners has a majority in the Lower House.

In January, Muhyiddin had officially launched the 5MY Programme in conjunction with the 2021 Federal Territory Day celebration.

The programme was designed to eradicate urban poverty, apart from improving the social safety net system among Malaysians residing in the Federal Territories.

5MY comprises five main initiatives: employment through MYJob@Wilayah; schooling (MYSchoolBus@Wilayah); basic necessities (MYGrocer@Wilayah); food (MYFood@Wilayah); as well as medicine (MYMedic@Wilayah).

Muhyiddin said the programme was in line with the "prihatin" (concern for the people) principle as espoused by his Perikatan Nasional government and the "Wilayah Prihatin" aspiration for the Federal Territories.  - Mkini
