Kuala Selangor PKR chief Juwairiya Zulkifli apologised for the use of the Bengali language on the party division's signboards.
Bengali is the national language of Bangladesh. It was used alongside Malaysia's national language Bahasa Melayu on several PKR signboards, which were erected at several locations in the district.
According to Juwairiya, it was due to some error in the printing process.
"I regret this language error that involves Kuala Selangor PKR division signboards, which have been set up at several locations.
"Immediate action to rectify the issue is being taken.
"Kuala Selangor PKR apologises for this mistake, which shouldn't have happened," said Juwairiya, who is the Bukit Melawati assemblyperson.
Several photos that were circulating on social media showed the signboards written in Bahasa and Bengali. It sparked dissatisfaction among certain quarters, including party members.
There were also several similar signboards that were written in Bahasa Melayu, Chinese, and Arabic. There was none in Tamil.
Checks by Malaysiakini also found that the Chinese language used on the signboards was not written in proper order, believed to be translated online using a translation app.
In her statement yesterday, Juwairiya said Kuala Selangor PKR always upholds the principles of justice and that PKR is concerned for the people, and respects diversity. - Mkini
