PETALING JAYA: PAS’ Syura council will be discussing ways to strengthen its political cooperation under its two political pacts – Muafakat Nasional (MN) with Umno and Perikatan Nasional (PN) with Bersatu – on Dec 18.
PAS secretary Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said the main agenda was to set its mission for the looming 15th general election.
“The meeting will also be discussing ways to strengthen MN and PN in facing GE15,” he told FMT.
The Syura council is the highest decision-making body in the party.
Ties between PAS and Umno have come under question following the Islamist party’s decision to contest under the PN banner in the recent Melaka elections.
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang hinted that the party could reject MN if Umno were to continue opposing Bersatu joining the political pact, which was formalised in 2019.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had also refuted Hadi’s accusations that the party was not honouring the MN charter by refusing to accept Bersatu.
Khairuddin did not provide details but implied that PAS still wanted to be a part of MN although it did not agree with Umno’s stand on Bersatu.
Despite Hadi’s stance against Umno, PAS spiritual advisor Hashim Jasin said the party has not made any decision on rejecting MN. - FMT
