KOTA BHARU: The contracts of the 2,600 teachers appointed in the June 2020 intake are expected to be extended for two years.
Education minister Radzi Jidin said the details would be announced after the education ministry and the Education Service Commission (SPP) had completed their discussion on the matter.
“Many issues had been raised related to the teachers on contract and we conveyed the problem to the ministry. Hence, appropriate action is being taken based on the existing rules and procedures,” he said at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at his home near Ketereh here today.
Radzi said the ministry was constantly discussing the best approaches for teachers on contract.
Yesterday, in a post on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, he instructed ministry officials to give their attention and resolve the matter immediately.
On teachers opting for early retirement, he said the ministry would study these on a case by case basis.
“We are carrying out an in-depth study after taking into account data from 2017. Many employees in the other services have also decided to opt for early retirement,” he said.
He also clarified that it was not true that some teachers had not received their May salaries, adding that the ministry would protect the interest of all teachers. - FMT
