Harapan urges PM to convene Parliament soon to debate anti-hopping law

Pakatan Harapan is urging Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to convene a special parliamentary session soon to facilitate a debate on the anti-party hopping law.

The coalition noted that the prime minister had previously expressed his commitment to discussing the matter.

Harapan said the special sitting would also give MPs the opportunity to discuss pertinent issues faced by the rakyat.

“Apart from the bill, this special sitting also should discuss issues faced by the rakyat at this time, including the cost of living and inflation,” the Harapan presidential council said.

The council also noted that the MACC’s revelation was worth discussing as it tracked several purchases for the country's national healthcare sector when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and (those are) plagued with corruption.

“Therefore, the presidential council urges the prime minister to act as soon as possible to enable all these matters to be debated,” Harapan added.

The statement was co-signed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau.

Their call was echoed yesterday by politicians across the political spectrum, including Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

This came with the sudden departure of Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin from her party and cabinet post.

Zuraida will be joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) - which was launched on Dec 21 last year and is headed by Julau MP Larry Sng.

With Zuraida's entry to the party, PBM currently has three MPs and two state assemblypersons. - Mkini
