Zuraida Kamaruddin should be retained as plantations and commodities minister since plans are for Parliament to be dissolved soon, her predecessor said.
Former minister Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali (above) said alternatively, Deputy Plantations and Commodities Minister Willie Mongin can be promoted to full-time minister to satisfy Bersatu's demands.
Zuraida yesterday announced she was quitting Bersatu and would be joining Parti Bangsa Malaysia.
She said she would be discussing her resignation as a minister with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, while Bersatu has said it would nominate a replacement soon.
Commenting on the impending reshuffle, Khairuddin said there have been three ministers in the plantation portfolio in this current Parliament term.
He said a new minister would have to learn the ins and outs of the ministry, and that changes under a new leadership could be a costly affair.
"A change (in minister) will also lead to a change in chairpersons and key officers in GLCs that were appointed by the current minister.
"It will also involve costs for any change of minister," he said.
However, he added, if a change must be made, promoting Willie would ensure continuity of operations at the ministry.
Khairuddin served as plantations and commodities minister under the Muhyiddin Yassin administration.
He was dropped when Ismail Sabri came into power.
