Over 4 million vehicles travelling on roads nationwide till Sunday

Millions will be heading back after the Raya holidays.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police expect as many as 4.5 million vehicles to be on the roads across the country over the next four days, starting yesterday, after the Aidilfitri holidays.

Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department (JSPT) chief assistant director of enforcement Bakri Zainal Abidin said the trend of the reverse exodus is expected to see a significant spike from tomorrow.

“A total of 1.2 million of the vehicles are estimated to be on the (PLUS) North-South Expressway,” he said when contacted today.

On April 6, Bukit Aman JSPT director Mat Kasim Karim was reported to have said that 4.7 million vehicles were expected to be on the roads nationwide in conjunction with Aidilfitri and that he had deployed 6,559 traffic officers and personnel at the contingent and district levels to ensure a smooth traffic flow.

Meanwhile, Bakri said following the forecast, the department had made preparations through Op Lancar for a smoother traffic flow. - FMT
