A Special Jihad Task Force to Tackle Inflation will be set up to address the rising cost of living that is burdening the rakyat, the cabinet decided in a meeting today.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the team would be tasked with gathering information from all relevant ministries, agencies and the public to draft and coordinate strategies to resolve inflation-related issues.
“This step was taken following the rising cost of living due to the climate change, geopolitical uncertainties including the conflict between Russia-Ukraine which is expected to last long enough to affect the food and fuel commodity markets,” Ismail said in a statement today.
He added that Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa would chair the task force.
The task force’s other members consist of Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Ronald Kiandee, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mustapa Mohamed and the chief secretary to the government Mohd Zuki Ali.
Specific officers from every ministry will be appointed as the focal point to provide immediate feedback to the task force, which will be administrated by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry.
Ismail said they would meet twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, followed by a press conference after every meeting to “provide explanations on issues raised by the Keluarga Malaysia”.
“The government is always working to ensure the Keluarga Malaysia is not seriously affected due to the rising global inflation,” he said. - Mkini
