After one year, the government has finally explained queries about a fatwa on the "Amanat Haji Hadi" being removed from the Islamic Development Department's (Jakim) fatwa online portal.
According to de facto Religious Affairs Minister Idris Ahmad, this was a result of updates to the portal, which involved reorganising fatwas.
Under the updated system, he said only fatwas and rulings made by consensus or a majority of states are included.
As for the Amanat Haji Hadi, he said only Malacca classifies it as "sesat" (deviant).
Idris said this in a written reply yesterday to a query on the amanat by Mahfuz Omar (Pakatan Harapan-Pokok Sena).
The amanat refers to a speech PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang made in April 1981 in Terengganu.
In the speech, Hadi declared that whoever supported Umno were infidels, and it drove a wedge between the party and PAS.
He also said Muslims who do not adopt Islam as a complete way of life, including in politics, were infidels.
Hadi never retracted that mandate.
Questions arose about whether the fatwa was deleted from Jakim's website in June last year, after which the department said it would make checks.
Critics asked whether the fatwa against the PAS president's speech was removed after he was made a special envoy to the Middle East, with minister status. - Mkini
