Altimet ready to reunite PKR Ampang as new division chief

Rapper Altimet has taken the task of reuniting all members of Ampang PKR as his first priority after being declared the branch's new division leader.

Altimet, whose real name is Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, said this in thanking party members following the results of re-election for the Ampang PKR branch after the original outcome was invalidated.

"My first responsibility as division leader is to mend ties between all the (candidates') teams and close ranks among all members to strengthen the party's machinery in facing the 15th general election," said Altimet in a statement yesterday.

"This is a big responsibility to be carried by any person, let alone an individual seen as just starting in this (political) arena.

"But this is not a job for just one person. This is a concerted effort of all members who embrace PKR's reform spirit," said Altimet.

He noted that Ampang PKR's final line-up - to be officially announced at PKR's congress later this month - comprises both energetic and experienced individuals ready to serve the party.

When PKR held its election last month, the original round of voting showed Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok winning the race with 942 votes to defeat actor Hans Isaac who received 609 votes, and Altimet in third place with 589.

However, following complaints of misconduct, the PKR Election Committee launched an investigation and found Daing to be involved in vote-buying and announced his disqualification.

The party then held a re-election for Ampang PKR on June 29.

A day later, unofficial vote counts showed Hans leading with 748 votes, followed closely by Altimet with 746.

In the final result published tonight, vote counts showed that Altimet had received 743 votes while Hans fell to second place with 734.

The re-election also saw three other candidates competing for the Ampang PKR division chief post, namely Abdullah Md Zain, Sam Hoo Wai, and Abdul Latif Shaari, while another candidate, Abdul Halim Mohamed Yusof, withdrew from the contest. - Mkini
