Anti-hop law: Bill ready for tabling in Parliament, says Azalina

PETALING JAYA: The proposed Anti-Hopping Bill is ready and will be debated in Parliament soon, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic).

The Pengerang MP, who is a member of the Parliament Special Select Committee (PSSC) on anti-party hopping, said the final meeting was concluded with the presence of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

"I am happy to share that the Parliament Select Committee on the Anti-Hopping Law have concluded and will submit the bill to the house to be tabled," said Azalina in a tweet on Tuesday (July 12).

Last month, Wan Junaidi said the bill will be tabled when Parliament begins its scheduled meeting on July 18.

It was tabled in Parliament on April 11, but was referred to the select committee for further deliberation before it was put to vote.

Passing of the law was postponed after resistance from certain ministers who disagreed with the current definition of party hopping.

The select committee was tasked with scrutinising constitutional amendments and definitions needed to introduce any anti hopping legislation. - Star
