PETALING JAYA: Melaka chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali says he is up for the challenge amid reports that a vote of no-confidence against him in the state assembly is brewing.

Sulaiman said he was ready to face any possibility and would like to see if such a motion would be tabled in the upcoming state assembly meeting, scheduled to convene on July 25.

“I want to see if it happens or not. If it does then so be it, I’m not afraid of anything,” Astro Awani quoted him as saying.

The Lendu assemblyman also questioned where the speculation about a leadership change had come from.

Rumours about the leadership change had been circulating since last November’s state elections.

“I don’t know where it’s coming from, perhaps some people just can’t leave us in peace.”

Last week, Sin Chew Daily reported that Sulaiman could face a vote of no-confidence in the upcoming state assembly meeting.

According to sources, Melaka Umno chief Ab Rauf Yusoh is looking to take over from Sulaiman.

Reports said the Tanjung Bidara assemblyman had approached several assemblymen on the government’s side to support a motion of no-confidence against Sulaiman.

However, Rauf, who is the state executive councillor in charge of industry, investment and entrepreneurial development, denied the claims. - FMT
