PETALING JAYA: The owner of a comedy club has been released on police bail after being held in custody for investigations into a performance at the club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.
He had been remanded on suspicion of playing with sensitive and racial sentiments while performing at the club, Bernama reported.
The police force secretary, Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin, said the 39-year-old man was released as the investigation against him had been completed.
She said the man was remanded for a day yesterday to complete the investigation process. The investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further instructions.
Noorsiah said the investigations were conducted under the Sedition Act for issuing statements that tend to be seditious and the Communications and Multimedia Act over improper use of network facilities or service.
Two video recordings believed to show the man performing a comedy routine at the club were widely shared on social media recently and elicited various reactions.
On Wednesday, a woman was charged in court with causing disharmony among Muslims while performing at the club while her boyfriend was charged with two counts of making and initiating obscene video posts. - FMT
