Covid-19 (July 12): 2,345 new cases, ICU patients breach 50 mark

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,345 new Covid-19 cases yesterday.

There are 52 Covid-19 patients in intensive care. ICU cases are rising over the past month and are now at a level not seen since March 11.

However, the overall daily admission of Covid-19 patients remains relatively stable.

There are 1,232 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Johor (121) followed by Selangor (120) and Sabah (79).

Johor has the highest hospital bed utilisation rate.

Meanwhile, the number of active Covid-19 cases stood at 35,716, up 24.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

However, active cases have been on a three-day downtrend. Despite that, case positivity rates have been going up exponentially through July, reaching 7.7 percent as of July 10.

Another three deaths attributed to the disease were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

These deaths were reported in Kedah (1), Malacca (1) and Perak (1).

Over the past week, an average of 4.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 3.6, indicating that such deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,819 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus. - Mkini
