The Crackhouse Comedy Club, which was the site of a controversial performance that resulted in arrests for alleged insults towards Islam, has been at the receiving end of vandalism.
The comedy club was believed to have been vandalised last night.
The venue, located in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, was vandalised with red paint splashed on its signboard, the entrance was splashed with red paint and posters leading up to the venue were also damaged.
When approached, a worker from a neighbouring bank declined to comment.
Meanwhile, an employee of an outlet nearby said nobody was at the scene when the incident occurred.
Previously, a video of a woman, alleged to be Siti Nuramira Abdullah, who took off her headscarf and baju kurung on stage at the club, had gone viral on social media.
Crackhouse said it banned the woman and her partner from the venue immediately after her stand-up performance and proceeded to lodge a police report.
Woman arrested after posting bail
Kuala Lumpur City Hall has since suspended the club’s licence, and today the woman was arrested by officers from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) after she posted bail at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex in Jalan Duta.
At least eight Jawi officers were seen around the woman to effect arrest as her lawyers, Ramesh NP Chandran and R Sivaraj, spoke to the religious enforcement authorities.
Ramesh told the media that the religious officers were arresting his client and seeking to charge her at the Syariah court tomorrow or the day after.
It was reported that Siti Nuramira succeeded in raising sufficient funds via crowdfunding to post her bail in her criminal case of causing ill-will via her open-mic routine.
Crackhouse co-founder Rizal Van Geyzel is also being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. - Mkini
